# HOW TO CALCULATE THE CUTTING LENGTH OF BENT UP BARS

## Cutting length of bent up bars

The cutting length of the bent up bar is done by using simple and easy formula.

### Example :

we have a length of span is 6 m and slab thickness is 200 mm and the diameter of the bar is 12 mm and the clear cover is 25 mm and the use development length is 50d.

#### calculate the cutting length of bent up bar?

**Given data :**

Diameter of bar = 12 mm

Clear cover = 25 mm

Clear span = 6000 mm

Slab thickness = 200 mm

Development length = 50d (where d is dia of bar)

**Solution:**

First we find the length of D for cutting length.

= (slab thickness) – (2 x clear cover) – (2 x half dia of bar)

Where D is the distance between steel and top face of clear cover where the bar is bend near the bottom face.

= 200 – 50 – 12

= **138 mm**

#### Cutting length:

= Clear span + (2 x L_{d}) + ( 2 x 0.42D) – (bends)

= 6000 + (2 x 50 x 12) + (2 x 0.42 x 138) – (1d x 4)

<45deg 90deg bends>

= 6000 + (2 x 50 x 12) + (2 x 0.42 x 138) – (1 x 12 x 4)

= 6000 + 1200 + 115.92 – 48

= **7267.92 or 7.267 m Ans..**
