HOW TO CALCULATE THE CUTTING LENGTH OF BENT UP BARS

Cutting length of bent up bars

The cutting length of the bent up bar is done by using simple and easy formula.

Example :

we have a length of span is 6 m and slab thickness is 200 mm and the diameter of the bar is 12 mm and the clear cover is 25 mm and the use development length is 50d.

calculate the cutting length of bent up bar?

Given data :

Diameter of bar = 12 mm

Clear cover = 25 mm

Clear span = 6000 mm

Slab thickness = 200 mm

Development length = 50d       (where d is dia of bar)

Solution:

cutting length of bent up bars

First we find the length of D for cutting length.

= (slab thickness) – (2 x clear cover) – (2 x half dia of bar)

Where D is the distance between steel and top face of clear cover where the bar is bend near the bottom face.

= 200 – 50 – 12

= 138 mm

Cutting length:

= Clear span + (2 x Ld) + ( 2 x 0.42D) – (bends)

= 6000 + (2 x 50 x 12) + (2 x 0.42 x 138) – (1d x 4)

<45deg  90deg    bends>

= 6000 + (2 x 50 x 12) + (2 x 0.42 x 138) – (1 x 12 x 4)

= 6000 + 1200 + 115.92 – 48

= 7267.92 or   7.267 m Ans..
