Cement Texture

Cement Texture

Cement texture is cement plaster finishes or wall finishes. Its mortar is prepared in cement-based material and the finish is very decorative. It is applied with the sand faced plaster and with a trowel, after that, it is colored with paint.

Cement plastered finish is prepared in the form of mortar with cement, water, and sand in the proper method and applied to achieve the smooth finish.

Cement texture finish is the decorative finish & its mortar is prepared in cement-based materials.

This type is used in all engineering works where high strength is required, for example, flooring, foundation, etc. The cement is also used in the concrete finishes.

As cement is the powdered ceramic, the addition of water can be molded and sets into solid mass bonding well to many surfaces. There are many different types of cement but most popular is Portland cement for the construction.

Contribution of Cement Mortar In Cement Texture:

In addition to water, the paste is prepared by mixing sand and cement in suitable proportions. Generally, there is 1 part of cement and 2-8 parts of clean sand and the mortar must be used in half an hour.

Lime Mortar:

By mixing lime and sand in suitable proportion addition with water, the lime mortar paste is prepared. These mortars are inferior to cement mortar in tightness and in strength.

This type is used in constructions that are above to ground level.

Light Weight Mortar:

By mixing wood powder and sawdust with cement or lime mortar, this paste is prepared.

These are used as fiber plaster in heat and soundproof construction.

Fire Resistance Mortar:

By mixing crushed bricks and aluminous cement, this paste is created and used for ovens and in fireplaces.

Application Steps Of Cement Texture:

These are the following steps in applying, But first, we will discuss what type of materials and tools we needed such as;

Materials:

  1. Primer
  2. Cement texture coat
  3. Topcoat

Tools:

  1. Trowel
  2. Sandpaper
  3. Roller
  4. Sponge

Now the steps:

Step 1: (Priming Stage)

First Layer:

Roll a layer of start to Primer on the entire surface and let it dry for 30mintues. The primer can be diluted with 2% of water.

Second Layer:

Then apply the second and let it dry for 20 to 30mintues.

Step 2: (Sanding Stage)

Sand the entire surface in a circular motion to ensure the surface is smooth.

Step 3: ( Texture Coat Stage)

Scrape start cement texture coat randomly to create the patterns. For more texture use a small scraper.

Ensure the whole surface area is covered with the cement coat.

The second layer can be applied without waiting for the first layer to dry. For a more enhanced pattern, the third layer of texture coat may be applied for a darker appearance.

Step 4: (Sanding Stage)

To ensure the surface is smooth sand the entire surface in a circular motion.

Step 5: (Top Coat Stage)

For the finishing apply the topcoat layer on the entire surface to enhance the protection of cement texture coat.

Properties Of Cement Texture:

There are the following properties of cement texture:

  1. Fineness of cement
  2. Soundness
  3. Strength
  4. Setting time
  5. Heat of hydration
  6. Bulk density
  7. Specific Gravity
